As nurses’ week comes to a close, we encourage you to thank a nurse.

At Ivinson we chose nurses’ week to thank all of our nursing staff and shine a light on our DAISY Award Honorees. In the second year of participating in the DAISY Award Program, dozens of nurses at Ivinson have been nominated for their care and compassion.

The DAISY Foundation was formed in 1999 by the family of Patrick Barnes as a way to recognize and thank the nurses that cared for him. Since its formation, the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses has been adopted in all 50 states and across 27 countries. Ivinson joined the DAISY Program to further recognize the extraordinary care that nurses provide and give others the opportunity to thank their nurses, coworkers and friends for the hard work they do every day.

DAISY Award Nurses are celebrated with a presentation on their unit in front of their peers. Showered with appreciation and cinnamon rolls, DAISY Honorees are presented with a keepsake certificate of their award, a DAISY Award pin and a hand crafted sculpture. The lifelong designation of being a DAISY nurse comes with opportunities to continue education and membership perks. At Ivinson, awardees are asked to sign the DAISY banner that is displayed on their unit over the quarter. The banner displays the signatures of the DAISY nurse that came before them.

Ivinson is a better place to work and receive care because of our dedicated nursing staff. This year, Ivinson has celebrated nurses across multiple departments and the banner travelled across the hospital in honor of these DAISY nurses:

Brooke Weiss, RN – Emergency Department

As an emergency room nurse, Brooke often sees patients on some of their worst days. That was true for a patient that nominated Brooke for her kindness and credits her outstanding care for making one of the worst days of her life, a little more bearable.

She was such a caring and patient nurse, who made me feel so comfortable while I was in her care. Brooke made an unbearable situation, almost fun and a memory that will stick in my mind. Brooke was an outstanding nurse.”

Jill Del Rio, RN – Obstetrics

For Jill del Rio, comforting expectant parents is just another day at the office. For a patient in Jill’s care, the comfort and support Jill provided was exactly what she needed in a stressful time.

I was so immensely blessed to have Jill as our nurse that night. She had a calming, caring, presence, and she knew how to use humor when necessary to calm my heart. I am grateful for her medical knowledge, and her care and concern for her patients. I could feel that even if I was her 50th patient for the day, I would be treated as if I was her first. She truly is a lovely human being.”

Valerie Joyce, RN – Medical/Surgical

Val was surprised with her DAISY Award on the medical/surgical floor while doing what she does best, caring for patients. Val was recognized not for the technical part of her job, but the human one. Caring for patients both physically and emotionally, left a lasting impact on a nurse that was under Val’s care.

I had several wonderful nurses while I was in the hospital and have only great things to say about the care that I received while I was admitted, however, Val will forever stand out as one who holds a special place in my heart and truly exemplifies what nursing means. At that moment, Val expressed more love and compassion to me as a patient than anyone has to me since all this madness started.”

Ryan Russi, RN – PACU

Ryan was Ivinson’s May 2020 DAISY Honoree. He was nominated by a patient that wanted to thank him for his excellent care during their surgery stay. Ryan was celebrated surrounded by his surgery team.

I was very worried about my surgery about a month ago but in the pre surgery stage Ryan made me very calm, answered all my questions, and just changed my whole attitude about my surgery. After my surgery was done and I was in the recovery room, he even came in to check on me when they weren’t even working in that area. Ryan is an exceptional staff member you have at Ivinson and truly made my surgical experience a positive one!”

Thank you to all of our nurses! If there is a nurse that cared for you, that you work with or that you have witnessed being exceptional, nominate them for a DAISY Award.
